Confirm process capabilities and quality:
Machining accuracy: You can send a sample with similar structure and strict tolerances (which can be of other materials) for the processing plant to test whether it meets the drawing requirements.
Surface treatment: If you have special requirements for oxidation, sandblasting, polishing, coating, etc., sending samples is a more intuitive way to convey the surface effect.
Welding quality: If welding is required, welding sample requirements can be provided, and the factory can issue welding test pieces for mechanical properties testing and metallographic analysis.
Communicate design intent:
Sometimes it is difficult for drawings to fully express some details (such as the smoothness of chamfering, texture direction, assembly feel, etc.).A physical sample can avoid deviations in understanding between the two parties.
Material verification:
You can ask the processing plant to use the designated titanium alloy grades (such as TC4, TA2, etc.) to process a small sample and send it back to you for material composition or mechanical properties testing to verify whether the raw materials meet the standards.
Small batch trial production and assembly testing:
Before formally placing an order for mass production, “proofing” is usually carried out first.According to your drawings, the processing plant will use titanium alloy to produce a small number of samples (usually 3-5 pieces) for you to perform dimensional testing, functional testing, assembly verification, etc.This is a standard part of the customization process.
Sending samples is an efficient and intuitive communication tool and quality verification link in the customization process of titanium alloy processed parts, but it cannot replace detailed technical drawings and formal technical agreements. The ideal model is a combination of ”drawings + samples + technical communication", so as to ensure that customized products fully meet your expectations and achieve efficient and reliable production.
