1. Composition and structure
The titanium content is ≥99%, containing a small amount of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon and other impurities.
Common grades: TA1, TA2, TA3 (industrial pure titanium).
Titanium alloy:
Based on titanium, aluminum, vanadium, molybdenum, zirconium and other elements are added to improve performance.
It is divided into α type (such as TA7), β type (such as TB2), α+β type (such as TC4, that is, Ti-6Al-4V)
2. Corrosion resistance
Both are corrosion resistant (resistant to seawater, chloride ions, etc.).
Pure titanium: It is more stable in oxidizing media (such as nitric acid).
Titanium alloy: Some alloying elements may affect the corrosion resistance in a specific environment, and need to be evaluated according to the composition.
3. Processing and cost
Pure titanium:
It is easier to cold process and weld, and the cost is relatively low.
Titanium alloy:
The processing is difficult (such as TC4 requires thermoforming), and the heat treatment process is complex.
The cost is higher (due to alloying elements and process requirements).
4. Application area
Pure titanium:
Chemical equipment (heat exchangers, reactors), seawater desalination, medical non-bearing implants, building decoration.
Titanium alloy:
Aerospace: engine parts, aircraft structural parts (such as TC4).
Medical treatment: artificial joints, orthopedic screws (taking into account strength and biocompatibility).
High-end manufacturing: racing parts, submersible ballast tanks, sports equipment.
5. Biocompatible
Both are good, but pure titanium is more commonly used in scenes where it comes into direct contact with soft tissues (such as dental implants).
Titanium alloys (such as TC4) are mostly used for bearing bone implants, but attention should be paid to potential alloying element ion release problems.
Selection of pure titanium: focus on non-high-strength scenarios with corrosion resistance, formability, and cost sensitivity.
Choose titanium alloy: high-performance fields that require high strength, heat resistance, and weight loss (such as aviation and medical implants).
